[Lin Yufei’s Theory]Qing Jun’s side? Changes at the top level of the CCP. (Video screenshot)
Enter2025Year,Chinese Communist Party Political ForumThere were some public but unusual political changes at the top. It seems that the top leader of the Chinese Communist Party is facing tremendous pressure to carry out self-revolution. However, this time is different from the past ten years of party unity and opposition, that is, the purge of other factions. Instead, it “turns the blade inward” and begins to purge those around them. A quietly unfolding “Qingjun side“The movement is ongoing.
On the surface, this movement began with the so-called “Democratic Life Meeting” held by the Politburo from December 26 to 27, 2024, and was subsequently launched at the provincial and ministerial level under the name of the 2024 Annual Democratic Life Meeting. In particular, the democratic life of the Shanghai Municipal Party Committee will be particularly eye-catching. With the “3rd Steering Group of the Democratic Life Conference” specially sent by the central government visiting the venue in person, Chen Jining, a popular candidate for the next prime minister and Secretary of the Shanghai Municipal Party Committee, criticized and self-criticized.
This year’s democratic life will have a clearing-house effect.
Of course, the theme of this type of democratic life meeting is still the implementation of “two safeguards,” but maintaining the leader’s authority in this way makes people think of similar democratic life meetings held by the Hebei Provincial Party Committee from 2012 to 2013.
At that time, it was a political revenge after the new leader came to power, but this year’s democratic life meeting has the meaning of cleaning up the door. For example, in an earlier Politburo democratic life meeting, Ding Xuexiang, one of the legendary “New Gang of Four” members, finally appeared after disappearing for a period of time. He looked gloomy and seemed to be the main target of criticism and self-criticism.
The recent movements of the Chinese Communist Army are reminiscent of the fate of Peng Dehuai
If the above signs were not obvious enough, the CCP officialdom has always been good at covering up the fierce internal struggles in performances, then the People’s Liberation Army’s New Year’s Day speech on January 2 almost made the crisis within the CCP public. Different from the opening speeches of the past ten years or so, this year’s New Year’s training order of the People’s Liberation Army omitted the name of the Chairman of the Central Military Commission for the first time, and did not mention the military training objectives for preparing for war. It was changed to “according to the provisions of the new military training and assessment syllabus.”
This can’t help but be reminiscent of the legacy of the Military Training Department of the General Staff in the 1950s, when Peng Dehuai tried to promote the formalization and nationalization of military construction, which was ultimately liquidated as a betrayal of the party’s principle of leading the military.
After the Chinese political system restored a unified leadership system integrating the party, government and military more than ten years ago, and worked hard to eliminate Xu Caihou and establish a system of chairman responsibility of the Military Commission, the unusual changes this time are particularly intriguing.

There is an atmosphere of mutual distrust within the Chinese Communist Army
These changes are reminiscent of the fact that since early December 2024, the “Liberation Army Daily” has continuously published commentary articles on democratic centralism. However, these articles were quickly scrubbed from the Internet. At the same time, many generals from the previous two defense ministers to the Rocket Force and the Army were dismissed due to corruption.
At a recent Army General’s conferment ceremony, in the one-shot news footage, people could not see the general officers’ expressions of joy and loyalty for their promotion. They could only see the gloomy expressions of all the participants, and there was an atmosphere of distrust.
The personnel adjustments in the military clearly show a tendency to alienate the supreme commander.
In fact, since China’s high-altitude balloon intrusion into U.S. airspace in early 2023 triggered internal shocks in the Chinese Communist military, its subsequent effects have not yet subsided. Since the Rocket Force underwent a large-scale purge and the Strategic Support Force changed its name and flag, this internal purge triggered by Operation Wolf Warrior against the United States seems to be forming a backlash. Senior generals in the military are increasingly suspicious of the incompetence of the cronies promoted by the leader, and believe that such appointments undermine the military system and pose a serious threat to the military.
Perhaps because of this, since the “weird smile” of the Vice Chairman of the Central Military Commission during the meeting with US National Security Advisor Sullivan on August 29, 2024, the 31st Army’s cronies promoted by the leader have been dismissed one after another within six months, and military personnel adjustments have begun to appear obvious. The tendency to alienate oneself from the Supreme Commander.

No veteran can mobilize political power similar to the “February Countercurrent”
If the rare trends within the army require further verification, perhaps it is more about the leader being furious after discovering that he had been deceived and purging his cronies one by one. Then the PLA training order on January 2 officially confirmed the authenticity of the rumors for the first time. . In fact, high-level officials of the party, government, and military, with almost no exceptions, while superficially loyal to seek high positions, engage in corruption, fabricate political achievements, conceal economic crises, and even cover up deficiencies in actual military capabilities.
In other words, if there are no veterans in the CCP political arena who can mobilize a political force similar to the “February Countercurrent”, then only when the people closest to the leader are collectively deceived, can he be prompted to kill a group of Ma Su with tears and launch a “blade attack” “Inside” clean-up operation. This may be the real reason why he once again emphasized the so-called “self-revolution” at the Economic Work Conference at the end of 2024.
Zhongnanhai exudes an atmosphere similar to the anxiety of the Chongzhen era
Whether from a theoretical or historical perspective, such self-defeating can only reflect the unprecedented political corruption and incompetence under China’s (communist) totalitarian system, and at the same time let the outside world smell the anxiety emanating from Zhongnanhai similar to that of the Ming Sizong (Emperor Chongzhen) era. This is undoubtedly an absurd and hopeless historical tragedy.
